Your privacy is our priority. This Privacy Policy explains how SmartFileManager (“the App”, “we”, “us”) collects, uses, and protects your information when you use our Android application.
1. Local File Access & Storage Permissions
To function as a file manager, SmartFileManager requires permission to access, read, modify,
and delete files on your device’s storage, including the “All files access”
(MANAGE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE) permission on supported Android versions. This is used
solely to let you browse, open, view, copy, move, compress, extract, and delete your files.
Your files never leave your device. We do not upload, copy, or transmit your photos, videos, documents, or any other local files to our servers or to any third-party cloud storage. All file parsing, viewing, zipping, and extraction happens locally on your phone.
2. AI Natural Language Search & Data Processing
SmartFileManager features an AI-powered search function. When you use this feature:
- The text query you type (e.g., “Find my PDFs from last week”) is sent directly from your device to the Groq API (operated by Groq, Inc.) to interpret your search intent.
- Only the text of your search query, together with the current date for context, is transmitted. No local file names, file metadata, or file contents are sent.
- The AI returns a formatted search filter to your device, and your device performs the actual search locally.
- Your query is processed by Groq in accordance with its own privacy policy.
3. Advertising
SmartFileManager is supported by advertising. We use Google AdMob (a Google service) to display ads within the App, including banner ads, interstitial (full-screen) ads, and rewarded / rewarded-interstitial video ads shown at natural breakpoints such as after compressing or extracting files.
Information collected for ads
To serve and measure ads, Google AdMob and its partners may automatically collect and process certain data, including:
- Your device’s Advertising ID (a resettable identifier);
- Device information such as model, operating system version, and language;
- Approximate, non-precise location derived from your IP address;
- Ad interaction data (e.g., impressions and clicks) used to deliver, personalize, and measure ads and to detect fraud.
This data is collected by Google in accordance with its own privacy policy. We do not control and do not have access to the raw data Google collects through its advertising SDK. Your choices
- You can reset or delete your Advertising ID, or opt out of ad personalization, at any time via Settings → Privacy → Ads (or Google → Ads) on your Android device.
- Where required by law (for example, for users in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, and Switzerland), the App presents a consent message via Google’s User Messaging Platform so you can choose whether to allow personalized ads before any such data is used.
4. Audio Playback & Notifications
SmartFileManager includes a built-in audio player. When you play an audio file, the App runs a media-playback foreground service so playback can continue while the App is in the background or the screen is off, and it displays a media notification with playback controls (play/pause, seek, and stop). To read the song title, artist, and album artwork shown in the player and notification, the App reads the metadata embedded in your audio files locally on your device. This information is not collected or transmitted. The App may request notification permission only to display these playback controls.
5. Third-Party Services
We use the following third-party services, which may collect limited data to ensure the App functions correctly:
- Google AdMob — to display ads, as described in Section 3.
- Google Play Services — for app distribution, integrity, and basic diagnostics.
- Groq API (Groq, Inc.) — receives the text of your search queries directly from your device to interpret your search intent.
6. Data Retention
We do not create user accounts or maintain databases of user information. We do not store your search history, personal data, or files on our servers. Any data collected by the third-party advertising and platform services listed above is retained according to their respective privacy policies.
7. Children’s Privacy
SmartFileManager is intended for a general audience and is not directed to children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Because the App displays ads, it should not be used by children without appropriate adult supervision.
8. Changes to this Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in the App’s features or legal requirements. We will notify users of any significant changes via an update on the Google Play Store and by revising the “Effective Date” above.
